Riga’s Tauro or “Bull” (if you’re familiar with Spanish) is a relatively recent addition to Riga’s fine dining & wine-ing scene. Back in 2022, when the restaurant opened on the ground floor of the newly built Zunda Towers, it created quite a stir and for a reason! Tauro’s specialty is high-quality beef from the best cattle houses in the world – from Kagoshima (Japan) to the US, Australia, Spain, and Latvia. All grilled, pan-broiled, seared, steamed, and roasted in an open kitchen, and then matched with some of the world’s most exquisite fine wines. Care for champagne? Go for a star-grower like Rodolphe Peters (yes, his Fleur de Miraval is on the list too) or Bollinger’s B13 Blanc de Noir to accompany your steak! Fancy some white Burgundy? Relax in the company of de Villaine’s Bouzeron or blow all your savings with Jack Prieur’s mighty Montrachet! Tauro’s real strength, however, lies in its RED section. In fact, its New World, and especially the US section of the list is the most impressive we’ve seen so far in the Baltics. It’s literally packed with some of California’s top names – from Opus One to Sine Qua Non and double-magnums of Inglenook Rubicon with a price to match! Make sure to check Tauro and (if you’re brave enough to kindly ask the Head Sommelier Ivo Orlovs) views from Zunda Towers top floor! Cheers!

Tauro’s suggestion: 2013 Inglenook Rubicon.

Our choice: a magnum of 2013 Achaval Ferrer Quimera for a head-to-head comparison with Rubicon 2013!
